13 February - 28 April 2006, Geneva, Switzerland
Graduate Institute for Development Studies

Project details

The course for which we recruit interpreters is part of a longer Masters program structured into three modules:

During the first sequence, the people in training follow a two-month introductory course to the concepts, the methods and the theories offered in parallel in Mali, Peru and in Vietnam with partner institutions of the IUED.

For the second sequence, each person carries out an applied research in relation to its field activity and to the main theme of the training.

The third sequence takes place in Geneva and represents a strengthening of the knowledge and experience exchanges.

Partly thanks to the interpretations, the people in training are enriched by interactions with people coming from other continents. Thus intercultural exchanges are put to very good use!

ICVolunteers offers internships in interpretation (English, French and Spanish) in a university environment, in the context of the "International Master of Advanced Studies" focusing on the promotion of sustainable human development, equal and respectful towards cultural and social diversity offered by the Graduate Institute for Development Studies (IUED). The course is focusing on development and globalization, between growth and exclusion.

Different from most study courses of this kind, where seminars are conducted in English only, these Masters offers its courses in three languages: French, English and Spanish. The dialogue between professors and students from different cultural contexts is possible thanks to the participation of volunteer interpreters who, for their part, are able to acquire the terminology in the following fields: environment, cooperation in development, business, gender, New Information Technologies (NITC), human rights and fight against poverty.
